Abstract

This study investigates the influence of transformational leadership behaviors of physical education teachers on student motivation and academic performance in higher education settings. Leadership in educational contexts is widely recognized as a critical factor influencing student engagement, participation, and learning outcomes. A quantitative survey research design was employed to collect data from 220 university students enrolled in physical education courses. Participants were selected through random sampling, and data were collected using a structured questionnaire consisting of 25 items measuring leadership behaviors and levels of student motivation. The questionnaire assessed dimensions of transformational leadership, including inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and regression techniques to determine the relationships between leadership behaviors, student motivation, and academic performance. The results revealed a significant positive correlation between transformational leadership behaviors and student motivation, indicating that students exposed to supportive and engaging teaching styles demonstrated higher levels of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. Furthermore, the study found that enhanced motivation mediated improvements in academic performance and active participation in sports-related activities. These findings highlight the critical role of transformational leadership in fostering a positive learning environment within physical education programs. The study underscores the need for leadership development and training programs for physical education teachers, emphasizing strategies that promote student engagement, encourage critical thinking, and provide individualized support. By cultivating effective leadership skills, educators can create motivating and inclusive learning experiences that contribute not only to academic success but also to the overall personal and professional development of students in sports and physical education settings.
