Globalization vs Nation-States’ Sovereignty: A Case Study of Pakistan in the Context of Media, Culture, Economy and Politics

Globalization is one of the trickiest phenomenon of 21st century. It changed an overall dynamics of the world in its all dimensions all the way from north to south. It is a common adage that history is always written by the victors but it is the first time ever when world is indirectly governed under one system. Globalization is an immensely increasing interdependence among states with respect to culture, economics, and Politics, being driven by periodic flow of goods, human capital and information across border. This research paper firstly discusses the globalization in a holistic manner while mentioning the conception of nation state sovereignty alongside its evolving nature. The study aims at analyzing the fact that although majority of the nation states across the globe are not resistant to the phenomenon of globalization but it has a huge impact for third world countries especially in the context of their sovereignty and self-governing notion. The discussion is subsequently streamlined towards the case study of Pakistan and tends to critically view three main areas of economy, culture/social and politics in its girth. It views that how the autonomy of a nation may diminishing under the overarching cult of international institutions, monetary frameworks, and media and governmental and NGOs. Finally this paper ends with a way forward, those possible solutions and recommendations which can help states in minimizing the negative impact of globalization and incorporating those policy frameworks which can help them in utilizing this very phenomenon for their development and prosperity.
