EXPLORING SUBJECT COMPETENCIES AND PEDAGOGICAL STRATEGIES OF CREATIVE STUDIES TEACHERS IN CROSS-BORDER EDUCATION PROGRAMS IN PAKISTAN
Abstract
Cross-Border Education (CBE) has grown very quickly in Pakistan, especially with the international affiliated institutions which offer the world recognized curricula. In this scenario, the Creative Studies, art, design, media and creative thinking are important in developing innovation, creativity, and industry-related skills. Nevertheless, there has been very little empirical study to explore the subject competencies and teaching methods of the teachers of Creative Studies in Pakistani CBE programs. The proposed study will evaluate the existing degree of teacher competencies in the area of Creative Studies and determine the pedagogical methods of enhancing the competencies in the context of cross-border education. The data was analyzed by themes and the repetition of themes based on subject-matter knowledge, continuous professional updating and pedagogical practices. The results indicate that teachers are in most cases well endowed with solid knowledge base and confidence in teaching international curriculum, but experience difficulty in maintaining the speedy changing global creative trends and sophisticated digital tools. The research provides the context-specific findings in Creative Studies teaching in the Pakistani CBE programmes and provides implications of enhancing the teacher development, institutional policy and further research in transnational education.
