Abstract

Education is broadly acknowledged as a key catalyst for personal development and social mobility, serving a vital role in addressing inequality and promoting economic growth. We conducted this study in urban and rural schools of District Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). We used qualitative research design and exploratory research method. We interviewed 12 participants by means of purposive sampling technique. We analysed data by using thematic analysis method. We found that socioeconomic factors, including parental education, household income, and school resources, significantly influence students’ academic achievement in rural and urban schools. Urban students benefit from better guidance, facilities, and career awareness, while rural students face economic constraints, limited resources, and lower parental support, highlighting the need for targeted interventions to reduce disparities.
