Abstract

This study aims to assess the current research supervisory practices in the universities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Pakistan, with a focus on understanding the effectiveness, challenges, and gaps in the research supervision process. Research supervision is a critical element of doctoral education, guiding students through their academic journeys and research endeavors. However, supervisory practices vary widely, and in the context of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, limited research has been conducted on the specific practices that shape doctoral students’ success. Using a mixed-methods design, this study collected data from doctoral scholars and research supervisors in selected public universities. The findings reveal a general need for improvement in supervision strategies, including more structured support, better communication, and clear expectations. The study concludes with recommendations for enhancing supervisory practices to improve doctoral education and research output.
