MULTIDIMENSIONAL POVERTY ANALYSIS IN DISTRICT BANNU, KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA

Abstract

In current study multidimensional poverty was measured in south Khyber Pakhtunkhwa district Bannu. Random sampling technique was used to collect primary data from 129 sample respondents in Tehsil Domel, union council ZirakiPirbakhel. It is a quantitative study based on data collected through a pre-tested questionnaire. In line with literature data on three dimensions (Education, health, living standard) and thirteen indicators was analyzed through Binary Logistic Regression. The obtained result showed that in sample population multidimensional poverty incidence in 38 % having intensity 43% while Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) score arrived 16.4%. Health contribution 45.7% in multidimensional poverty of the area followed by education (39.5%) and living standard (14.7%).Binary Logistic regression results shows that higher education (matric and above), low family size(2-5 members) and high annual income(above 10 lakh)  have negative association with probability of multidimensional poverty. Key policies need to be formulated to tackle the issues of access of households to higher education, awareness programs on family size, population growth and focus on green affordable energy supply for reduction of multidimensional poverty in study area..
